Day 01 : Chandigarh – Shimla 110 Kms
Arrive Chandigarh and drive to Shimla. Arrive Shimla and check-into the hotel. Walk to mall road and Ridge area. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 02 : Shimla – Kufri – Shimla
At Sunrise trek to Jakhu temple (Hanuman Temple) to get a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Return to the hotel for breakfast. Later drive to Kufri (16 kms). Kufri an exotica of natures flora and fauna where one can completely relax and tune ones self for natural beauty. Return to the hotel and rest. Evening visit the Mall road a good shopping area, Ridge area and Christ Church. Return back to hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 03 : Shimla – Manali 260 Kms
After breakfast drive to Manali. Manali is a combination of natural splendour and rich heritage. Check in at the hotel on arrival. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 04 : Manali
After breakfast at the hotel proceed for sightseeing tour of Manali which includes Hadimba Devi Temple built in the tranquil and serene woods, Vashist Bath, Tibetian Monastery and Roerich Art Gallery. Afternoon take a half-day tour of Naggar and Angoora Shawls Factory. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 05 : Manali
Early morning after breakfast, proceed for excursion of Rohtang Pass. The majesty of the mountains can be seen at their best here. Take a sledge ride down the slopes or try your luck climbing the little snow hills (From December to April) On your descent to Manali halt at the Rahalla falls and Solang Valley. The magnificent views and natural beauty are never-ending source of delight. Also halt at Marhi, Nehru Kund. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 06 : Manali – Dharamshala (Mcnoldganj) 235 Kms
After breakfast drive to Dharamshala. It is a picturesque hill town that commands a splendid view of the surroundings Dhauladhar Himalayan ranges, enroute visit Baijnath – the oldest existing Shiva Temple in the country. Check into the hotel and rest of the day is free to walk around the local Tibetan market at Mcnoldganj. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 07 : Dharamshala (Mcnoldganj) – Dalhousie 143 Kms
After visit the Tashijong Monastery built by the Dalai Lama, Bhagsunag waterfall, Temples etc.Afternoon drive to Dalhousie. Arrive and check in the hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure to explore Dalhousie. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 08 : Dalhousie – Khajjiar – Dalhousie 44 Kms
After breakfast proceed for a full day excursion to Khajjiar, surrounded by picturesque snow capped mountains and thick forest of pine trees. Return to Dalhousie in the evening. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 09 : Dalhousie – Chandigarh 318 KMs
Breakfast at the hotel, later drive to Chandigarh. On arrival check in the hotel. Evening is at Leisure. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 10 : Chandigarh
Breakfast at the hotel, later checkout and if time permits, visit the Rose Garden & Rock Garden, later transfer to the Airport / Railway station for your onwards journey.
Special Attractions
Shimla :
Himachal State Museum & Library : The museum is located 2.5-km west of the scandal point and opens daily except on Mondays and public holidays. It has got a good collection of ancient historical sculptures, paintings, coins, photos and other items from all over the state as well as outside it. It has also got a library, which houses many historical books and manuscripts. Visiting hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM and it is closed on Monday and gazetted holidays.
Viceregal Lodge & Botanical Gardens : On the Observatory Hills is located Viceregal Lodge, which is also known as "Rashtrapati Niwas". This magnificent building was the residence of the British Viceroy Lord Dufferin. This lodge was completed in 1888 and it is said that every brick for the building was carried by mules. This is a six-story building and is surrounded by well-maintained gardens and lawns. The lodge has now been
converted into Institute of Advanced Study and is further 2-km from State Museum.
The Ridge : The large open space in the heart of town presents excellent view of the mountain ranges. Shimla's landmarks - the Neo-Gothic structure of Christ Church and the new - Tudor Library building is worth seeing.
The Mall : Most of Shimla's landmarks are located here. The Mall further joins the Ridge at the ‘Scandal Point' of Kipling's Shimla, where a statue of the nationalist leader Lala Lajpat Rai has been erected.This is the main shopping centre of Shimla with restaurants. This is especially pleasant in the evenings when the views and lights are wonderful. The Gaiety Theatre, which is a reproduction of an old British theatre is a center of cultural activities. A passenger lift of HPTDC can be taken from the Cart Road and the Mall. Lakkar Bazaar adjacent to the Ridge is popular for its wood-crafts and souvenirs.
Prospect Hill : Crowned by a temple dedicated to Kamna Devi 15-minutes walk from Boileauganj on Shimla-Bilaspur road. The hill at an altitude of 2,155m offers a spectacular view of the area.
Summer Hill : At an altitude of 1,283m, 1 KM from boilaeuganj.Summer Hill is a picturesque spot on Shimla-Kalka Railway line offering shady walks in quiet surroundings. The Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi during his visit to Shimla lived in the elegant Georgian House of Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur located here. HP University is also situated over here.
Potter Hill : Situated at a distance of 1 Km from Summer Hill is very beautiful Picnic spot with all the natural beauty. Ecological Park is situated here.
Glenn :
Its about 4 km walk from the Ridge through dense Forests, a sprightly stream flows through the Glen forests at an altitude of 1830 meters.It is a secluded picnic spot.
Annandale : Beyond the Glen is Annandale, another picnic spot. It is covered with deodar forests and was once the playgrounds of Shimla, where racing, polo and cricket entertained the Britishers.Surrounded by deodar trees, this glade has an ancient temple on the edge.
Elysium Hill : On the road leading through Lakkar Bazaar, houses the famous Auckland House, the former residence of Viceroy Lord Auckland. It is a well-known girls’ school now. Nearby is the Stirling Castle, now an orphanage for the Tibetan children and a center for the Tibetan exiles who have settled locally.
Mashobra (10KM) : Situated on Shimla-Naldehra road at a height of 2149 mt. . A place of unique beauty, Mashobra is an ideal interlude beneath the oaks and the pines. Featuring beautiful gardens spattered with the daffodils, hyacinths, asphodels and celandines, it is a popular weekend resort, dotted with delightful villas and innumerable picnic spots. Goddess Durga temple is worth seeing From here, a track leads down to Sipur, which is an exquisite glade shaded by ancient deodar trees. A fair is held here every April/May. About 3 km from Mashobra is the lovely resort of Craignano.
Kufri (16KM) : Kufri, at distance of 16 km from Shimla and at an altitude of 2510 m above sea level, is a site offering some famous hikes and wonderful snow for skiing in winters. An enjoyable walk leads up to the Mahasu Peak. The Himalayan Nature Park here has a good collection of animals and birds found in the region.
Narkanda (64KM) : Narkanda, offers wonderful slopes for skiing. At an elevation of 2708 m, it has dense pine forests. Hatu peak, 8 km from Narkanda, provides a striking panorama of the plains below. Narkanda offers spectacular views of snow ranges. Ancient temple of Hatu Mata is alive with skiers. HPTDC runs Hotel Hatu and in winters short skiing courses are organised.
Fagu (22KM) : Fagu Situated on Hindustan-Tibet Road (22-km), at a height of 2,450m Fagu is gifted with some enchanting views. Himachal Tourism runs the Hotel peach Blossom.
Manali :
Hadimba Temple : This temple, with a finely wrought four - tiered pagoda roof, dating back to 1553, is built around a natural cave, which enshrines the footprints of the goddess Hadimba. Hadimba was the wife of Bhima, one of the five great Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata, and later became the patron goddess of the Kulu royal family.
Manu Temple : Just near the Hadimba temple flows the Manalsu River, that culminates in the main Beas river. Across the Manalsu river is the original village of Manali, that houses the ancient temple of the sage Manu. Manali itself is named after Manu, who is said to have dwelt here.
Monasteries : Manali also houses three Tibetan monasteries, that have been built recently.
Arjun Gufa : Five kms from Manali near the village of Prini is the Arjun Gufa, Arjuna's cave. Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, is believed to have performed his penance here.
Vashisht : Three kms from Manali is the village of Vashisht, which is renowned for its hot sulphur springs. The village is also the site of some old temples, dedicated to the great sage Vashisht, and to Lord Rama. The Himachal Tourism sulphur baths are just beyond these shrines.
Jagatsukh : The erstwhile capital of Kulu, Jagatsukh houses temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Sandhya Gayatri.
Solang Valley : Around 14 kms from Manali, is the Solang valley, that boasts of the glacier nearest to the resort. Replete with terrific picnic - spots, the amazing ski slopes here are full of hectic activity, come January - February.
Towards the Rohtang Pass : Six kms from Manali, on the way to Keylong, is the Nehru Kund, a beautiful spring named after the late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister of India. 12 kms from the resort is Kothi, an idyllic village, which boasts of a superb view of the deep gorge, and the Beas river rushing through it. Sixteen kms from Manali, at an altitude of 2500 m are the magnificent Rahalla Falls, beyond which is the Rohtang Pass, 51 kms from Manali. Located at a height of 3980 m, the Pass once served as a crucial trade route, and still remains the gateway to the districts of Lahaul and Spiti.The Pass is open from June to November each year, and provides wonderful views of the entire surroundings. Just beyond the Pass is the Sonapani Glacier and the twin peak of Gaypan. The Beas Kund, the source of the Beas river, a holy site for Hindus, as the sage Vyas is said to have meditated at this spot, is also accessible from the Rohtang Pass.
Adventure and Fishing : The Mountaineering Institute in Manali organises skiing, rock climbing and mountaineering courses. The common trek routes lead out from Manali to Leh, Bhrigu Lake, Chandratal, and Spiti. For fishing enthusiasts, Katrain, Raison, Kasol, Larji, and Nagar are some of the ideal places for trout.
Dharamshala :
Mcleod Ganj is charming Tibetian settlement with bustling bazaar that sell carpets, Tibetian handicrafts, and delecious tibetian foods. The Tibetan Institute of performing Arts (TIPA) is just a kilometer walk from Mcloeodganj and preserves a number of musical, dance and theatrical tradition of Tibet. His Holiness Dalai Lama also resides in Mcleodganj which is now major culture centre of Tibetian.
Dal Lake :
Just 11 Km from Dharamshala is beautiful picnic spot called Dal Lake, surrouded by gigantic Fir trees. An annual fair is held in september every year.
St. John's Church :
Just a short drive from Dharamshala is the final resting place of Lord Elgin, the erstwhile viceroy of India during the times of the raj. The St. John's church, as it is more popularly known is adorned with intricately carved walls and stained glass windows. The deodar forests surrounding the area and a nearby cemetery with perfectly quite environs lend the place an exotic look and feel.
Bhagsunag Falls :
Dharamshala is a secluded place. However, if you still want to escape the bustle of the main city, try going to Bhagsunag. Situated just 10 km from the city, the place can be accessed by a pleasant drive of 20 minutes on well built roads. Bhagsunag houses an ancient temple along with a fresh water spring, however, the main attraction of the place is the beautiful water fall where water descends from a great height and comes down with a thudding sound.
Dharamkot :
There is something unique and charming tucked away in every nook and corner of the place. Dharamkot is one such quaint place situated just 14 km from Dharamshala on the tip of a hill. All good things come at a price, you should be willing to walk a short trek before getting to this scenic spot which affords a panoramic view of the surroundings. There are a number of restaurants and refreshment shops that serve the needs of the travellers.
Kareri :
The shimmering Kareri lake is situated 22 km from Dharamshala. A small rest house situated besides the lake provides excellent accommodation facilities.
Dalhousie :
Subhash Baodi :
The Subhash Baodi springs are situated at an altitude of 2085 mts above sea level, at a distance of just 1.6 Km from the G.P.O. square. The place is a popular picnic spot with its picturesque environs and pleasant climate. The view of snow covered mountain peaks at a distance lends the place a unique charm.
Kalatope :
Kalatope is another famed attraction situated just 5 km from Dalhousie at an altitude of 2438 mts above sea level. The place is housed amidst picturesque environs and consists of a beautiful palace, forest rest house and a wildlife sanctuary with attractions such as ibex, deer, bear and leopards. The drive upto the place is an experience in itself passing through winding roads lined with pine and deodar trees.
Satdhara :
Satdhara or seven streams is a group of seven springs, situated at an altitude of 2036 mts on the way to Panjpulla. The water of the streams is said to contain medicinal properties capable of curing chronic diseases. The place also affords a commanding view of the surroundings.
St. Andrew's Church :
Built in the year 1903, St. Andrew's Church, also known as the Church of Scotland is situated just one and a half kilometers from Dalhousie bus stand. The church is built in a Scottish architectural style and is still in good condition. Other important churches around the city are St. Patrick's Church, St. Francis Church and St. John's Church.
Khajjiar :
Situated 27 Km from Dalhousie at an altitude of 6430 mts above sea level, Khajjiar is a quaint little hill town which attracts a number of visitors for its huge adventure sports opportunities and salubrious climate. The place was originally developed by the British as a summer resort to escape the high heat and humidity of the plains.
